| March 14, 2017 6:03 PM

The state champion Glacier Avalanche Squirt A capped off a successful hockey season this past weekend by winning the Montgomery Memorial Division A Tournament in Missoula.

The 10U team defeated the Helena Bighorns (5-3), Couer D’Alene Thunder (20-1), and Missoula (5-0), to advance as the top seed in Sunday’s championship game.

The Glacier Avalanche beat the Missoula Bruins 5-2 in the championship game.

Jack Muhlfeld and Cody Polumbus each scored goals late in the first period, and Finn Safir and Cody Polumbus scored in the second period. An empty net goal by Rohan Kamat late in the third period secured their third tournament win this year.

Glacier’s defense, led by Luke Craig, Sam Trufant, and Adam Healy and goaltender Blake Blandon shut down a fierce Missoula offensive effort, while aggressive offensive play by Charlotte Wallace, Tait Orme, Cody Tveidt, Austin Dodson and Aven Ames helped rally the team to victory.

The Avalanche won the Montana Squirt A State Championship in Bozeman two weeks ago. The team’s final record for the season is 28-4-2 in play across Montana and Western Canada.
