The Glacier Avalanche PeeWee 12U B team fought hard to reach the end-of-season tournament championship recently at Stumptown Ice Den and went home with a second-place finish.

Despite entering the tournament with an 0-5-1 record in league play, the Avalanche won their first game against Elk Valley. Finley McCarthy and Ford Thompson scored for the Avalanche, with Nic DeMarco and Braden Johnson assisting on two McCarthy goals.

Forty seconds into the third period Glacier faced a 2-4 deficit, but rallied with three unanswered goals for a 5-4 win.

The Avalanche faced teams from Golden and Invermere, both from British Columbia.

Thompson scored the lone goal in a 1-6 loss the first game.

The Avalanche picked up a close 4-3 win over Invermere. The score was tied with 12 minutes to play when Thompson scored on another McCarthy assist for the eventual game-winner. McCarthy, Braden Johnson and Cale Olbert also had goals for the Avalanche.

That win put the Avalanche in the title game against Elk Valley.

Elk Valley held a 4-5 lead in the third after trailing until 32 seconds left in the second. Elk Valley scored halfway through the third and a Katie Craig goal for the Avalanche wasn’t enough, and Glacier finished with a 6-5 loss for second place.

Benny Kann, McCarthy and Maya Lucy all scored for Glacier.
