The Glacier Twins are hot after a 4-0 sweep of the Cloninger Classic in Helena this weekend.

The Twins took down the Helena Reps on Friday, Vauxhall and Anaconda on Saturday and the Bozeman Bucks A club on Sunday for the tournament title.

The opening game against Helena ended up the closest, as Glacier scored two runs in the seventh inning to boost a 5-3 lead to a 7-3 victory. Ryan Veneman was the winning pitcher, and Greyson Bistodeau, Tom Hellwig, Coby Clark-Dickinson and Matt Morrison all went 2-4 at the plate with RBIs.

On Saturday, the Twins dominated their two opponents by a 28-3 margin. Clark-Dickinson picked up the win in the 13-2 beatdown of Vauxhall and Skyler Warner got the win in the 15-1 thrashing of Anaconda.

The Twins blanked the Bucks A 8-0 to put the finishing touches on a solid weekend on Sunday.

Hellwig went 3-3 for two RBIs on a day that saw the Twins outhitting the Bucks 14-2. Clark-Dickinson picked up his second win of the tournament.

“The bats were working really well,” head coach Scott Murray said of the weekend. “And we’re down to less than two errors a game, which is good.”

Murray pointed to the good work by his pitching staff, especially by coach Treyson Hopkins, to put his team in the best position no matter which ace is on the mound.

Continuing to have consistent pitching will be key moving forward, he said.

“We need solid pitching again, and that’s going to be the theme for the season,” he said. “We have a lot of games coming up, one right after another, so we really rely heavily on our pitching staff. Not just one or two guys, we rely on the whole staff.”

Glacier heads to Eureka this afternoon for two games against the Kootenai Valley Rangers. On Saturday they’ll host Cranbrook before taking on the Mission Valley Mariners back at Memorial Field the following day.

If his team can keep the bats going, Murray said everything else will work itself out.

“We just need to continue hitting the ball. If we do that we’re going to be just fine this season,” he said.
