Wild finish to 46th Cat-Dog Smoker
The 46th annual Cat-Dog Boxing Smoker finished with a bang Monday night at Memorial Field.
Columbia Falls’ Brandon Thomas won by unanimous decision over Whitefish’s Miguel Parra in a bloody and strenuous final bout, which was also selected as the “Fight of the Night.” Thomas received the 2017 Cat-Dog Smoker Outstanding Fighter Trophy.
For Whitefish, Carlitos Bertelson won by unanimous decision over Earl Gneiting-Juitt of Columbia Falls, Robert Bertleson stopped Ennis Jones of Kalispell, and Caleb Mehan won by unanimous decision over Louis Surrell, Kalispell.
In a Bulldog versus Bulldog exhibition match, Tray Schraeder won by split decision over Zach Ade.
Whitefish’s women fighters split their two matches. Becca Catina took down Jamie Seirs, both from Whitefish, in the first round after a few early knockdowns. Aaris Hill of Kalispell won by unanimous decision over Whitefish’s Mackenzie Vick in the night’s opening bout.
In the semi-main event, Tristan Knopp of Whitefish lost by split decision to Christian Johnson of Columbia Falls.
The event is a fundraiser for the Glacier Twins American Legion baseball team, which features players from both communities.
