Care needed for cart use, divots

| July 18, 2017 4:37 PM

Golf Cart Use

Whitefish Lake Golf Club, like most golf courses, asks that all players using a cart follow the 90 degree rule all year long. Some players seem to think the rule is only for during early season or wet conditions, when in fact the rule is in place all the time. In extremely hot periods, such as our recent weather pattern, the turf gets stressed by the heat and cart traffic can be just as damaging as in the spring. So we ask that if you need to drive to your ball please return to the cart path at a 90 degree angle instead of driving up the fairway. This rule applies even to those who are granted a handicap access flag.

Ball Marks and Divots

To see the best way to repair a ball mark on the green please check out the USGA website to see the video clip showing the correct process. It is best to work around the mark by gently lifting and moving the damage turf back into place. A repaired ball mark will heal properly in a matter of days whereas one left unattended can take weeks to repair. Divots in the fairway and tees should be filled with sand mix to help them heal and smooth the surface. Rarely will a divot that is replaced actually reattach to the soil and survive. Try not to over fill the divot as the sand mix can be hard on the mowers if it extends above the surrounding grass.

Green Fee Play at WLGC

The number of green fee rounds played at WLGC this year is down slightly from last year’s pace and continues the downward trend of the past couple of years. Green fee revenue for years was the larger part of the total revenue but now memberships account for the greater sum. Green fees still account for nearly 50 percent of the total and help keep the membership rates some of the lowest in the region. Encourage your friends and guests to enjoy a round at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.
