William Lowell Wallace

| January 31, 2017 3:11 PM

William Lowell Wallace, “Bill” was called peacefully to be with the Lord at his home, on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017 at the age of 79.

Bill was born in Whitefish, on Aug. 18, 1937 to Russell L. and Monrene A. (Wilson) Wallace. Bill graduated from Whitefish High School in 1956 where he met and then married his high school sweetheart Mary Alice Hastings on April 27, 1957. He then spent time as an Engine Fireman for the Great Northern Railroad and as a Radio Operator for American Bridge building missile silos in Eastern Montana. Bill then wisely chose to begin his college career at Northern Montana College in Havre, and finishing at the University of Montana with a bachelors of pharmacy. Also, while attending college, Bill and Mary were blessed with a son Roger Dean and daughter Michelle Lynn.

Bill began his pharmacy career in Gig Harbor, Washington, and eventually settled in Ephrata working first for Potter Drug. The couple then purchased Don’s Drug, soon to be known as Bill’s Pills and Mary’s Gifts. Bill then became the Pharmacy Manager at Ephrata Safeway and worked relief until his retirement in 2005.

Bill truly personified the term “Servants Heart.” During his time in Ephrata, Bill twice served as president of the Ephrata Lions Club where he was eventually honored with a Lifetime Membership. Bill also served as president of the Ephrata Chamber of Commerce as well as serving as Elder and Deacon for Our Redeemers Presbyterian Church. Bill enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, skiing, horses and of course his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill was very proud to be a University of Montana alum and Grizzly football was his passion. On any given day, Bill could be found wearing a favorite piece of Grizzly logo’d clothing ... Go Griz! Bill and his walking partners took particular pleasure in solving the world’s problems, while putting in thousands of miles walking the streets of Grandview Heights and enjoying morning coffee.

Bill is survived at the family home by his wife of 59 years Mary Wallace as well as their children Roger Wallace (Carolyn) of Polson, and Michelle VanHeusden of Ephrata; a sister Patricia Gilbertson (Doug) of Whitefish,; grandchildren Joshua (Megan) VanHeusden, Megan VanHeusden and Tyler VanHeusden all of Ephrata, as well as Erin (Ben) Johnson of Seattle and Robbie Hayes of Polson; great-grandchildren Jobe, Zxander, Elijah and James; nephews Michael Gilbertson (Leslie) of Portland, Oregan and Alan Gilbertson (Beth) of Kalispell.

Arrangements are being provided by Nicoles Funeral Home and services were held Monday, Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. at Our Redeemers Presbyterian Church in Ephrata. Please express your thoughts and memories for the family at www.nicolesfuneralhome.com.

The family truly appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time and in lieu of flowers we suggest donating to Ephrata Food Bank, Our Redeemers Presbyterian Church or of course the charity of your choice.
