Libby Nagler rises for a layup during Saturday's loss to Frenchtown.

A down season for the Lady Bulldogs continued with two losses over the weekend.

On Thursday Whitefish traveled to Bigfork for the second game against their Class B rival. The Valkyries were too much for Whitefish’s defense, however, and Bigfork walked away with the 66-24 victory.

Becca Catina led the Lady Dogs in scoring with six points. Jaime Berg scored 15 points for Bigfork.

On Saturday Whitefish hosted conference opponent Frenchtown, but a fast start by the Lady Broncs set the tone early. Whitefish scored just three points in the first quarter and trailed 32-11 at the half. Diana Vasquez dropped 10 points for the Lady Dogs and Annisa Brown added six points. Liv Williams had a game-high 14 points for Frenchtown.

Head coach Ben Johnson said that while he sees progress in his team, the lack of experience on the court is what’s hurt them the most.

“I think it’s coming along. We just have to play better. A lack of experience is where we’re at,” he said. “We’re still hustling. We’re trying hard. They’re continually working hard, it’s just not putting the pieces together at the right time.”

Johnson also complimented the play of his young junior varsity squad, who has won their last three games.

On Friday Whitefish hosts Corvallis at 7:30 p.m. for Senior Night. Amara McDaniel, the team’s lone senior, has played a strong role for her team, Johnson said.

“She works hard and is always there for the team no matter what,” Johnson said.

Corvallis will be a test for the struggling Lady Dogs, and defense will be key in what should be a challenging matchup.

“They’re going to be tough. They’ve got length,” Johnson said. “If we can put a game together where we play some tough defense and put the ball in the hole we’ll be in the game at the end.”
