Message from the desk of Polly Penguin
Dear King Ullr LVIII and Queen of the Snows,
After 57 years of frivolity and friendship among the gregarious people of beautiful Whitefish, I am giving in to the strong yearnings and desire to return to my native land, Antarctica. Can you relate to the strong pull of family? I’m longing to connect with all the cousins I left behind.
I’ve witnessed many changes in this beautiful Flathead Valley ... both the good and not so good! With rumblings about global changes that are affecting my homeland, I want to see Antarctica before it becomes unrecognizable to an old-timer like me.
I’m hanging up a “Gone Fishin’ sign and ... Antarctica, here I come!!
I apologize for not seeking prior approval or pardon from your royal highnesses (and Dr. Seuss), but my travel plans require that I absent myself from you and all the frivolity and gaiety of the “One Fish, Two Fish” Carnival festivities. Other members of my penguin family will amply fill the loss of my presence with extra squawks and happy feet dances.
I will continue to be an ambassador of good will, inviting fun loving, good-hearted people to visit Whitefish, one of the last best places! Wish me well on my voyage and adventures to the ice cap covering the South Pole.
Polly Penguin is Kay Knapton, Queen of Snows II (1961). She is currently traveling to Antarctica.
