Speech takes second at tourney

The Whitefish speech and debate team grabbed a second place finish at Corvallis on Saturday.

Zachary Ade led the way with a first place finish in extemporaneous speaking and sixth in memorized public address. The debate team of Ian Caltabiano and Zachary Kasselder also won second place in policy debate.

Columbia Falls won the Class A sweeps at the Corvallis/Hamilton Invitational Tournament with 168 points. Whitefish placed second with 65 points and Belgrade was third was 40.

The tourney featured 22 teams from Class AA, A, and B/C.

Whitefish Head coach Carissa Shupp said the students are continuing to tweak details while they gain experience and look ahead to the state tournament.
