MARS skiers make podium
The Montana Alpine Race School traveled to Big Sky for the Lone Peak Speed Series of the USSA Northern Division Feb. 10-12.
The series consisted of three Super-G competitions. There were an average 65 women and 75 men from across Montana in the competition. MARS traveled with eight competitors ages 12-17. MARS has been training two weeks for this competition at Blacktail Mountain. That preparation was evident as MARS had an outstanding weekend with 12 age group podium results, 16 top five results.
Montana State University entered a few men and ladies each day to improve the field and set the pace. For MARS member Annika Severn-Eriksson this was a return to her home hill. She started off the weekend with a brilliant run and top junior racer closely behind the Montana State women.
In the team competition the boys trailed only the Montana State men’s team going into the final race.
Super-G is an on-the-edge competition with no room for caution.
The team returns home to train at Blacktail Mountain this week in preparation for the FIS Wild West Technical series in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, for one member and the Bridger Technical Qualifying Series in two weeks for the others.
