Stumptown sets winter class schedule

| December 26, 2017 11:48 AM

Stumptown Art Studio is offering a blast of art classes and workshops for youths and adults. The first session for the kids starts up on Jan. 2.

Monday and/or Tuesday and/or Wednesday begins with Art Academy from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for ages 3-5. This creative classroom is an art-based program with an integrated core curriculum approach for educating pre-school age students.

Some new and exciting art adventures have been added to the program. Storybook Art for ages 3-5 will be on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m.-noon followed by the regular Art Exploration from 1-2:30 p.m. Young artists will enjoy listening to some of the most beloved stories, then create their own pictures in Storybook Art. The afternoon class explores fun projects using different mediums.

Another new theme for after school on Tuesdays from 3:45-5:15 p.m. is the Painting with the Classics for ages 5-8. These classics just happen to be cartoon characters and historical figures.

And, the new title of the after school class on Thursdays for ages 7-13 is #Sculpt. Some of the most famous sculptors and cultural creations will be the source of inspiration to create sculptures of their own.

Wednesdays continue with After School Art Club for ages 8-13. For only $6 a visit, young artists can be part of the creative fun.

A monthly evening for young artists, Canvas & Cookies, takes place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Fridays, Jan. 26, Feb. 16 and March 9. Ages 7-12 are invited to join in for some painting, treats and fun. On Jan. 26 the subject is “Jim Dine Hearts,” just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Adult workshops coming up include: Screening Ceramics, Glass Fusing, Precious Metal Clay, Canvas & Cocktails, Wild Women Wednesdays and the Cultural and Art History Club. Another new program, Saturday Night Art Fever will feature a different art theme each month to try. Some are for adults and some for families. The first is “Monoprinting” on Jan. 20 for ages 16 and up, with two demonstration times, 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., followed by hands-on projects.
