Skate Academy performances this weekend

| December 26, 2017 12:43 PM

Glacier Skate Academy will be performing “New Year’s On Ice” Dec. 30 and 31 at the Stumptown Ice Den in Whitefish.

The family-friendly show will celebrate the New Year festivities, reflect on 2017 and look forward to 2018, including a prelude to the upcoming winter Olympics. The cast of 30 local skaters includes competitive and recreational skaters as well as beginning skaters and ranges in age from 4 to 17.

“New Year’s On Ice” is the first show directed by Glacier Skate Academy’s new skating director Cesca Supple. She relocated to Whitefish in July from Madison, Wisconsin, to take over the academy’s skate program. She trained as a competitive skater under World and Olympic coaches Evy and Mary Scotvold and has more than 35 years of experience coaching skaters of all levels.

Guest performers include Canadian guest skater Craig Finney and local singer Luke Walrath. Finney started figure skating at the age of 3 in Calgary. He had a successful competitive career for many years, including multiple appearances at the Canadian Figure Skating Championships. He then pursued a career in show skating for 6 years, where he traveled all over Europe and Asia. Walrath is a Broadway veteran and co-founder of Alpine Theatre Company in Whitefish. He has performed on three continents as a singer, dancer and actor.

Show times are Saturday, Dec. 30 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. General admission ticket prices are $12 for adult, $8 for children ages 6-12, and FREE for children age 5 and younger. On-ice reserved seating is $15-$20 for all ages. Tickets are available at glacierskateacademy.org or at the door one hour before show time. For questions, please call the box office at 890-0155.
