Accurate handicap is important for improving

| August 30, 2017 10:22 AM

Golf handicap

In order to have an accurate handicap for tournament play it is imperative that players post “all” their scores, tournament and recreational rounds included. Since your handicap is based on your best 10 scores out of the last 20 scores posted, players should not very often be able to actually shoot their handicap. Note the handicap is not your average score but is based on the course you are playing and the particular tees you have chosen. When posting scores it is also very important to use the Equitable Stroke Control system to make any needed adjustments. Based on your handicap the largest score you can record for any individual hole will vary. For example if you are a 20 to 29 handicap the highest score you are allowed to post on any hole is an 8 and for those 9 or lower it is a double bogey. A chart is available by the Golf Shop computer for you use in adjusting your scores before posting.

Maintaining an accurate handicap is a good measure of how you may be improving or can also help players of different ability compete on a reasonable basis.

WLGA board elections in October

New board members are being sought for the upcoming three year terms. To be eligible to run for the board you must be at least 18 years old and been a member for five consecutive years or more. As stated last week this year’s election at the annual meeting on Oct. 14 will see two men and on one woman elected to the board of directors. If interested in running for the board, please contact Terry Nelson.

Cart storage space

A copy of the current cart waiting list is posted in the locker rooms at the clubhouse. To have your name placed on the list for potential spaces in the future, please contact Terry Nelson at terry@golfwhitefish.com. Spaces are rented to members on a name specific basis and are only transferable to spouses should the lessee no longer maintain membership. The spouse must have also been a member as well. The member rents the space on an annual basis from WLGA.

Go right when you enter

Members and guests are reminded to go right around the putting green circle when entering the golf course and not cut across to the parking lot by the starter shack. This is a safety issue that could involve pedestrians, golf carts and other vehicles. Thank you for your consideration and cooperation.

USGA agronomist site visit
