Huckleberry Days returns to Depot Park this weekend
The magical huckleberry — a smallish berry that only grows in the wild and has a uniquely sweet and tart flavor — will be celebrated in Whitefish this weekend.
The annual Whitefish Chamber of Commerce’s Huckleberry Days Arts Festival returns to Depot Park for its annual three day run Aug. 11-13.
The event features more than 120 great artists, craftsmen and food vendors, along with music on the community stage, Huckleberry Bake-Off and fun for kids of all ages.
The weekend begins with free huckleberry ice cream from Sweet Peaks being served-up at 10 a.m. Friday morning at Glacier Bank downtown. Ice cream will be served until it’s gone.
The art show runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.
Festival goers will enjoy a variety of entertainment on the community stage throughout the festival.
On Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon, the Whitefish Wrestling Club will hold a huckleberry pancake and sausage feed at the Whitefish Middle School front lawn. Cost is $6 per person.
Also on Saturday is the annual Huckleberry Days Bake-Off competition under the gazebo at Depot Park. Registration and entry drop off runs from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Judging begins at 10:45 a.m.
The competition includes children and adult divisions and there is a $5 entry fee. Entries are judged on appearance, texture, taste and originality. All entries must contain huckleberries and be homemade.
Cash prizes are awarded along with ribbons and bragging rights.
