Gliding across the water about 20 folks got the chance to enjoy some fun on Whitefish Lake Friday for a special event.
DREAM Adaptive volunteers took about 20 participants out on paddleboards and kayaks. DREAM, which stands for Disabled Recreation Environmental Access Movement, has both adaptive skiing and watersports programs.
“We’re like outfitters,” executive director Emily Bertino says. “We’ve got the gear and the trained volunteers to help.”
The program is in its third year of hosting paddleboard events for people with disabilities and is on yrack to give about 75 lessons or opportunities to participants this summer. DREAM also hosts sit water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing, swimming and boating events in the summer.
There is one more paddle board event at Whitefish Lake this summer on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information, visit http://www.dreamadaptive.org/.
