High school golf practice tees off this week
High School Golf
Practices for the Whitefish High School Golf teams begin this week and all interested players are encouraged to join the team, no experience is necessary, just a desire to learn to play golf by working hard to learn the skills needed. Before the first practice all participants need to obtain and complete the necessary paperwork to be eligible. This includes a current physical and consent form must be turned in by the first day of practice. Coach Kahle welcomes all WHS students to join the team and learn a sport that lasts a lifetime.
Club Championship Great Success
The 2017 Club Championship was once again a tremendous success thanks to Tim Olson and his all star staff of Golf Professionals. Chris Newton, Tyler Martin, Adam Long, Lyndsie Sebby and Cody Olson all did a superb job of running a quality event.
This year’s champions include: Carroll Lilly, seven time Senior division champ and Larry Schswenke the Super Senior Champ (70 and up age group). The Men’s overall championship goes to Art Doorn, former Bulldog and current New Mexico State University player. The Women’s overall championship belongs to Dawn Furtado with Linda Ray the first flight winner. Junior Champs for 2017 belong to Megan Archebald in the girls division and boys champ is Christian Clark.
Tee Projects Completed
With the addition of the new forward tee on number 13 of the South Course a four-year long project to add new tees is finally completed with five choices of tees for various players. This began with a recommendation from the United States Golf Association to get our forward tees more in line with standard yardage of around 5,000 yards for ladies. The new gold tees are part of the effort to have players “play it forward” for their enjoyment and also pace of play. Players have the choice to play from as long as 7,000 yards down to 5,000 yards. Having our super seniors play from the gold tees produced some excellent scores and has increased participation in the Club Championship.
