A few of the galleries are presenting featured artist or exhibits on Thursday.

- Stumptown Art Studio is hosting its second art exhibition featuring a group of Blackfeet artists from East Glacier, Browning and the vicinity. An opening reception for the show is part of the Whitefish Gallery Night. Pieces ranging from paintings, ledger art, photography, printmaking to mixed media sculptures, leather and beadwork will be on display through the month until Sept. 3. Among the artists featured at Stumptown are David Dragonfly, Teri Loring Dahl, Jim Watts, Valentina LaPier, Ernest Marceau Jr., Lindy Racine, Sammy Jo Bird, Jeremy Johnson, Walter Running Crane, John Marceau and Renee Bear Medicine.

Stumptown Art Studio, located at 145 Central Avenue in Whitefish is open seven days a week to view the exhibit, Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sundays from noon-5 p.m. For details, call 406-862-5929 or visit www.stumptownartstudio.org.

- The Purple Pomegranate, a fine craft specialty store, is featuring work by Kalispell artist Shelle Lindholm during the month of August. Lindholm has created a rambunctious collection of 20 new acrylic paintings that includes all things wild and wonderful such as dreamy deer and bears, dancing loons, imaginary gardens, tall pines, flamboyant birds, not to mention, somewhat silly longhorns, owls and kitty cats.

Lindholm uses paper cutting to create simple, lively animal forms. Etching and scraping into multiple layers of acrylics help to build lively color stories and strong personalities. The recent addition of adding fluid acrylics into the mix has elevated the luminosity in her work.

Lindholm’s frames are unique to her work as well. They are built by her husband, Dave and she hand paints them with six to eight layers of paint. A satiny patina is achieved using a durable, hand rubbed paste wax finish.

An opening reception will be held during Gallery Night and her work will be on display throughout August.

The Purple Pomegranate is located at 222 Central Ave. For more information, call 862-7227 or visit www.purplepomegranate.com.

- Whitefish Pottery and Stillwater Gallery are proud to present “Discovering Systems,” an exhibition of ceramics by Stephanie Sanders. Sanders is currently wrapping up her year-long apprenticeship with Whitefish Pottery, and this show is a culmination of work made during her time here.

While apprenticing with Whitefish Pottery, Sanders had to discover a system to live and work at the studio while finding time every day to create projects of her own. Sanders’ intricate and delicate forms were carefully honed throughout the year.

The opening reception will be Thursday in conjunction with Whitefish Gallery Nights, and the show will run through the month of August.

Whitefish Pottery & Stillwater Gallery is located at 240 Central Ave. For more information, call 406-862-1417 or visit www.whitefishpottery.com.

- The Walking Man Frame Shop & Gallery will feature Linda Hendrickson with “Trail Treasures.” The opening reception on Thursday includes live music by William Ingrid.

Hendrickson’s passion is acrylic painting. She describes her style as “Whimsical Impressionism” and loves to paint pet portraits, animals of all sorts and “Topsy Turvy” landscapes. Often experimenting with mixed media, she says her works are colorful, full of texture and “happy accidents.”

She is a hiker and long time lover of Glacier National Park. She will show paintings uniquely inspired by her time in Montana and along the trail.

The Walking Man Frame Shop & Gallery is located at 305 Baker Avenue. For more information, call 406-863-2787 or visit www.thewalkingmanframeshop.com.

- The White Apple Gallery will feature artist Sheila Miles’ debut show in Whitefish.

She is one of the most accomplished contemporary western artists in Montana and the West and is represented in 17 public and museum collections. She currently lives in Santé Fe and after a recent and very successful one-woman show at the Missoula Art Museum is going to be in Whitefish for the opening reception of her solo show of 16 new pieces at White Apple Gallery.

White Apple Gallery is located at 19 Baker Ave. For more information, call 406-730-3156 or visit www.whiteapplegallery.com.
