Whitefish senior Derek Kastella signs his letter of intent to play basketball at the University of Great Falls.

Whitefish High School seniors Sawyer Silliker and Derek Kastella last week signed their letters of intent to take their athletic careers into college.

Silliker plans to attend Rocky Mountain College for football, while Kastella will go to the University of Great Falls to play basketball.

Silliker said the chance to be closer to his brother, who lives in Billings, and the chance to play football made this an easy decision.

“I just wanted to pursue my career in football and it was probably the best opportunity for me to play college football,” he said.

Kastella said the atmosphere is what sold him on Great Falls.

“I went down there on my visit and the atmosphere is just really great,” he said. “I’m excited to have the opportunity and I’m blessed to play at the next level. I’m just going to go do down there and do the best I can and hopefully it works out.”
