Whitefish students fared well recently at the 13th Annual Montana HOSA: Future Health Professionals State Leadership Conference in Helena.

Gillian Broughton and Hunter Grimes took gold in Forensic Medicine, Ethan Pothoff took gold in Dental Terminology and the HOSA Bowl A-C Class team of Grimes, Broughton, Pothoff and Travis Catina also took first.

Nearly 400 Montana high school students competed in health science skills events to determine who qualifies to attend International HOSA Leadership Conference being hosted in Orlando in June.

College and local healthcare facility health professionals served as judges for 30 leadership, team, health profession and emergency preparedness competitive events. Online test scores are averaged with competitive event skill performance scores to determine medal winners.

Montana HOSA: Future Health Professionals is one of seven Montana Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) partially funded through House Bill 86, and designed to offer real world application to academic subjects to prepare students for college and careers, give students leadership and career opportunities and involve students in their communities through community service work. High school membership in Montana HOSA surpassed 550 members this year and 94 percent of the 2016 graduated Montana HOSA seniors enrolled in postsecondary education.
