Annual WLGC meeting set for Oct. 15

| September 6, 2016 3:00 PM

The 2016 Annual Meeting of the Whitefish Lake Golf Association is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15 with a hosted brunch at 9:30 a.m. followed by the business meeting. All members are invited to attend the meeting and learn about the current financial position and plans for the next season.

Two new board members will be elected to replace John Peschel and Leslee Washer who will complete their three year terms at the end of the year. John Peschel has served as the President to the board this past season and Leslee Washer served as the V.P. and chairperson of the finance committee.

At the current time, Bill Bayne has expressed an interest in serving on the board and assume the seat occupied by John Peschel. Tracy Whisenand has likewise agreed to run for the vacancy created by Leslee Washer’s expired term. Both have been Tier One members at Whitefish Lake Golf Club for several years with backgrounds that would add value to the board of directors.

Fall Pro-Am Sept. 17-18

The Fall Pro-Am is fast approaching and members wishing to play should sign-up in the golf shop to participate in the drawing to play on one of the 30 plus teams competing in the two-day event. The Pro-Am features a one low net and one low gross score on each hole for the five person team. This Pro-Am has proven to be very popular in the region with Golf Professionals from all around the area, including Canada, participating.

More forward tees planned

This fall the very popular forward tee project will continue with new construction planned for holes Nos. 14 on the North and 4, 7 and 8 on the South Course. While the board knew some members would appreciate the new tees, we were somewhat surprised to see nearly 25 percent of the total rounds played from the shorter distances. The new tees will allow the red tees to play a course that is close to 5,000 yards. Those choosing to play the gold tees will find a much more manageable distance of roughly 5,600 yards. The construction will start after Sept. 18.

The planned renovation of the North Course practice green has been postponed for next year. The condition of the North Course putting green is as good as it has been in several years thanks to the efforts of our crew and increased morning sun now striking the surface after the removal of a few trees to the east of the green.
