The Whitefish girls cross country team put on another strong performance Thursday at Thompson Falls, winning the team title behind three top-10 finishers.

Ella Greenberg finished in fifth place with a time of 20:32.30, Jessica Henson was in seventh with a time of 20:45.40 and Josephine Vardell finished in eighth with a time of 20:51.97.

“It was a good race. We had a group of three girls that went to the front of the race early and stayed there the whole time,” head coach Richard Menicke said. “That’s one of the strategies that’s really successful, the girls are doing an excellent job packing up like that and running as a group.”

For the boys, senior Ethan Potthoff cracked the top 10, finishing with a time of 17:51.27 for ninth place. The team as a whole finished in fourth place behind Frenchtown, Ronan and Columbia Falls.

“On the boys side, we’re getting solid as a group, we’re running as a nice pack and that’s going to help us out the next few weeks down the home stretch,” Menicke said.

The Bulldogs host the Whitefish Invite Thursday at Whitefish Lake Golf Club.

“I’m excited for it,” Menicke said. “I think it will be a smaller race, but I’m excited for the kids to get to run at home in front of their families.”
