WTC brings over-the-top parody troupe to stage

| November 8, 2016 3:27 PM

Billed by Variety magazine as “one act that should not be missed,” the Whitefish Theatre Co. is thrilled to present The Kinsey Sicks, “America’s Favorite Dragapella Beautyshop Quartet.”

Complementing their clever and comedic lyrics with their finely blended voices and over-the-top drag, this outrageous parody troupe is performing only one night at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish on Friday, Nov. 11 at 8 p.m.

For over 20 years, The Kinsey Sicks, an award-winning, all-male quartet, has served up a feast of music and comedy to audiences all over the world. Their superb a cappella singing, sharp satire and outlandish drag have earned them a diverse and devoted following. With a phenomenal performance record that includes an Off-Broadway show, an extended run in Vegas, two feature films and eight albums, The Kinsey Sicks will perform their show “Chicks with Shticks” that includes original songs and a brilliant night of parodies of well-known hits, all in gorgeous four-part harmony. The New York Times recently called The Kinsey Sicks “the hottest ticket in town ... taking the cabaret world by storm.”

The Kinsey Sicks began in 1993 as a group of friends who went to a Bette Midler concert in San Francisco dressed as the Andrews Sisters. They began singing and harmonizing that night, and the seed for the group was planted. Within a few months, the Kinsey Sicks morphed into the bewigged, larger-than-life characters of Rachel (Ben Schatz), Trixie (Jeffrey Manabat), Trampolina (Spencer Brown) and Winnie (Nathan Marken). Since then, they have toured internationally to rave reviews. Their critically acclaimed Off-Broadway hit, Dragapella! Starring the Kinsey Sicks at New York’s legendary Studio 54 received a nomination for a Lucille Lortel Award (the Off-Broadway Tony) as Best Musical and a Drama Desk Award nomination for Best Lyrics. The Washington Post has called The Kinsey Sicks “uproarious ... brilliant ... authentically joyful” while the Chicago Tribute has described them as “outrageous, marvelous, hilarious ... they’re golden-throated vocalists who defy categorization.”
