Chorale presents 'Flights of Imagination'
Glacier Chorale will present its fall concert “Flights of Imagination” on Nov. 11 and 12, led by Glacier Chorale Conductor, Micah Hunter.
The concert will offer a diverse repertoire with each song relating to topics about inspiration and the imagination of mankind including the allure of flight, the nobility of virtue, the spiritual realm, the mystery of the sea, the unknown and love. Concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 11 and 12 at Glacier High School Performance Hall, in Kalispell.
The Nov. 11 concert was originally scheduled for the Whitefish Performing Arts Center, but had to be moved due to a scheduling conflict.
Ticket holders who purchased seats in the former venue of the PAC, will be given seats in the Tier 1 section of GHS Performance Hall.
The Glacier Chamber Singers, a select group from the 70-voice choir, will open the concert with songs by composer Norman Luboff including Dream a Little Dream of Me, a harmonically thick and rhythmically challenging piece. Following that will be selections from his collection of “Much Ado About Nothings,” short, complex, and humorous musical statements of pithy sayings, proverbs, and puns. The Chamber Singers will round out their portion of the program with Irving Berlin’s “What’ll I Do;” a King’s Singers standard, “You Are the New Day” by John David and Peter Knight; and a lovely choral arrangement of the folk song “In the Hills of Shiloh.”
The entire Glacier Chorale will then perform a full program, featuring two opera/ballet choruses by Henry Purcell, “With Drooping Wings” from Dido and Aeneas and “Hush, No More, Be Silent All” from The Fairie Queen. Also performed will be “Ubi caritas” by Paul Mealor, which was performed as part of the wedding ceremony of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
“Another highlight of our program will be Joshua Shank’s ‘The Boy Who Picked Up His Feet to Fly,’ a song that offers a fun and exciting exploration of the dream of flight as well as a warning to be careful what we wish for,” says Hunter.
He completes the repertoire with Eric Whitacre’s “Water Night” and Dan Forrest’s “Good Night, Dear Heart” along with songs by J.S. Bakken, Edward Elgar, Vijay Singh, Alan Hovhaness and Thomas Morley.
