Whitefish tennis is shaping up nicely as the season inches closer to tourney time.

The boys and girls took down Columbia Falls in dual action on Thursday in convincing fashion.

The Whitefish boys swept the Wildcats 7-0. As a team, the Dogs only dropped six games all afternoon.

Max Smyley defeated Patrick Tillman in No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0 to set the tone. Eric Holdhusen also won easily at No. 2 singles.

In doubles play, Chaffin Ross and Ethan Potthoff had no problem putting away Columbia Falls’ top duo of Brock Denny and Trevor Wick, 6-2, 6-0.

The boys kept it going with a 5-2 dual win over Hamilton on Saturday in Whitefish.

The Lady Dogs were impressive as well in taking a close dual over Columbia Falls 5-2. The girls swept doubles play and posted wins at Nos. 3-4 singles.

Paige Sproul came up with a big win at No. 4 singles over Sam Mueller, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5).

“Paige’s win was big for us,” Whitefish head coach Patrick Dryden said. “I know she is improving and this is a great indicator of that.”

Dryden said Heather Luedtke’s match at No. 2 was another good sign for the team with only one week of regular season play remaining. Luedtke defeated Harley Molchan, 6-1, 6-1

“That was a dominating performance,” Dryden said.

The coach also complimented Lili Szundy, who lost to top-rated Emily Getts, 6-2, 6-1.

“Lili played quite well against one of the best tennis players in the state,” Dryden said.

Top doubles team Katie Fyall and Anna Peterson picked up another win, 6-3, 6-4 over Sydney Grilley and Morgan Stenger.

“They played a good Columbia Falls team,” Dryden said. “That win will give them confidence in the divisional tournament.”

The Whitefish girls swept Hamilton on Saturday. Scores for that dual were not available.
