Whitefish’s top girls doubles tennis teams showed their dominance last weekend in winning all their matches during a road trip to the Bitterroot.

Heather Luedtke and Hannah Madsen along with Katie Fyall and Anna Peterson each notched doubles wins Friday in duals against Corvallis and Hamilton.

The duos then won their tournament outings at the Bitterroot Invitational on Saturday. Both teams matched up with Dillon teams in the second round and came out with victories.

“Without a question, the highlight of the weekend were the doubles teams,” said Whitefish coach Patrick Dryden.

Fyall and Peterson won a thriller over the Dillon team after falling behind 0-4 in the second set. They would rally to win 7-5, 7-6 (8).

“They faced a lot of pressure in that match,” Dryden said. “They stepped it up and responded.”

Dryden said both Whitefish teams would have met in the championship, but the tourney was called early due to time. Both teams met in the championship last year, as well.

Dryden was impressed with his team’s play all weekend. The Lady Dogs blanked Hamilton 7-0, and beat Corvallis 6-1 in a tight dual. Five of the matches against the Blue Devils went to three sets.

Cailyn Ross and Amara McDonald teamed up at No. 2 doubles for a big win 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 over Hailey Vietz and Taylor Saturday.

“They rallied back to win a big team point for us,” Dryden said. “The dual was very much in jeopardy then.”

Dryden also noted the play of Paige Sproul in picking up wins in singles play against Corvallis and Hamilton.

“The team is showing a lot of improvement,” Dryden said. “There is a lot of consistency and we’re serving well and cutting down on the unforced errors. Everyone is getting better.”

Whitefish plays at Columbia Falls on Thursday, then hosts Bigfork and Hamilton on Saturday.
