An alley closed this spring for the construction of the new City Hall and parking garage is on target to reopen by the end of the month.

Mike Cronquist, the city’s representative on the project, said Martel Construction is working toward being able to open the alley to through traffic by Memorial Day weekend. The alley has been closed to semi-truck traffic since March.

“We will try to maintain access on each end, but we will be restricting through traffic until it can be fully opened,” Cronquist said.

Concrete work continues throughout the project. About 450 cubic yards of concrete have been poured for City Hall and 225 cubic yards have been poured for the parking structure.

Waterproofing and insulation have been installed on the previously poured basement for City Hall and work on the stairwell for the basement continues.

Work is on-going for plumbing, electric and mechanical installations.

Preparation work and inspections for setting structural steel columns and first floor framing has begun. Installation of the structural steel framing on the basement walls is set to begin next week. The budget for the City Hall and parking garage is just over $16 million.
