Five swimmers with the Wave Ryder club returned from the Northwest Region Short Course Championships with impressive results.

Top swimmers from the region competed in the races at Federal Way, Wash.

Nathan Burnham, 16, earned three gold medals, winning the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and the 1,650 freestyle.

“Nate was on fire,” said Ryders coach Mike Nelson. “Every practice is focused on getting better and working hard. It was good to see all his hard work pay off.”

Burnham rallied from behind to win the 500 and 200 events.

“The whole stadium was cheering, very exciting,” Nelson said.

Madeline Muhlfeld, 11, earned an 11th finish in the 500 freestyle. Ada Qunell, 11, was 22nd and 23rd in the 100 fly and 50 fly. Molly Roalson, 10, placed 11th in the 100 backstroke and 12th in the 50 fly. Logan Botner, 11, was 11th in the 100 fly and 14th in the 50 backstroke.
