A community forum to discuss a recent study on the Whitefish Lake watershed is set for next Tuesday, March 22 beginning at 6 p.m. at the O’Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.

Whitefish Lake Institute recently published the 300-page “Whitefish Area Water Resources Report: A Status of the Whitefish Lake Watershed and Surrounding Area.”

The institute collected data on the watershed beginning in 2007 and complied their findings into a complete status report that is to be used for long-term water quality management. The report provides baseline knowledge, identifies known and potential concerns, and offers recommendations to organizations responsible for the health of the watershed.

Whitefish Mayor John Muhlfeld will provide introductory comments at the forum. Whitefish Lake Institute Executive Director, Mike Koopal, and Science and Education Director, Lori Curtis, will provide details of the research and the report. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.

A social hour is planned for 6-7 p.m. Students from Whitefish High School will present a poster session on current student projects related to water quality and environmental issues. Wine and dessert from Simple Chef Catering will be served during the social hour.
