Twins teams reach semifinal of Ed Gallo Wood Bat
The Glacier Twins A and B teams nearly swept their home Ed Gallo Wood Bat Tournament last weekend, until they didn’t.
Both teams went 4-0 through pool play to secure semifinal appearances Sunday at Memorial Field. Despite the dominate run, neither team made it to the championship. Glacier A team dropped a 5-4 decision to Volkswagen of Olympia, while the Twins’ B team fell 5-2 to West Valley Baseball.
Strong pitching led Glacier A all weekend. Skylar Warner allowed just two hits in five innings of work for a 3-1 win over Kootenai Valley Saturday to get the Twins into the semis. Vinny Smith closed the win. Tristin Steinwand, James Sampson-Keck and Smith had RBIs.
The Twins B reached the semis with a wild extra-inning 5-3 win over Belgrade. Caleb Meehan ignited the winning rally when he walked to lead off the inning, stole second, stole third and scored on a Jared Reynolds sacrifice fly.
Glacier A opened the week with a sweep of Kootenai Valley in a conference doubleheader that included the team’s second no-hitter of the season.
Tyler Murphy struck out 11 batters and allowed two walks in blanking the Rangers 17-0.
The Rangers drew a walk before Murphy retired the next 11 batters he faced. All but four of the 15 outs Murphy recorded came via strikeout. He needed only 81 pitches to complete the no-hitter.
The Twins won the nightcap 10-0 behind Ryan Veneman’s complete game two-hitter.
