Golf Column: Club Membership Tournament

| July 12, 2016 10:00 PM

The annual Club Championship is scheduled for Aug. 6-7 and everyone is invited to participate in this fun event.

Once again, Whitefish Credit Union will be the corporate sponsor and if your tee shot hits the 16th green on the South they will make a donation on your behalf to a select charity. On Sunday, Aug. 7, the first hole-in-one on No.6 North will win a $10,000 cash prize.

This member event offers numerous prizes for all flights as well as a barbecue on the deck at the end of the round on Saturday, all included in the entry fee.

Champions will be crowned in the regular flight for men and women, junior championships, senior division and a super senior category has been added. You need not be a low handicap player to participate as there are more net prizes than gross awarded.

Contact the Golf Shop at 862-5960 for more information and to register for this event.

Grow the Game

Golf is in the middle of a stagnant grow cycle with fewer new players taking up the game, therefore many courses are closing across the country. While our membership at Whitefish Lake Golf Club has remained stable over the past decade or so, new players are always welcome.

This year WLGC has a noticeable decrease in the number of green fee players, which we attribute to the decrease in the Canadian dollar compared to ours. This is a cycle that has repeated over the last few decades and will ultimately return to previous levels.

We urge our local residents that have thought about trying the game to call the Golf Shop and schedule an introductory lesson with one of our Golf Professionals. Our patient staff will gladly teach the basics of the game and you can then enjoy a recreational activity that can last a life time.

Congrats Coach Kahle

We are all excited to have Bill Kahle taking over the reigns as Coach of the Whitefish High School golf team. With his knowledge and experience, plus great ability to relate to students, the program will remain in good hands. With the 2016 season starting in about one month, we urge all interested players to get their golf game rolling for another successful season. Tim Olson did a fantastic job the past few years and helped coach Kahle gain the experience needed to maintain the program.
