A back-and-forth game Saturday slipped away from Whitefish down the stretch as Polson came out on top in a battle of the unbeatens in Northwest A.

Polson (7-2, 3-0) drubbed the Bulldogs in the final frame to go home with a 57-38 victory and sole possession of first place in the league.

The game was up for grabs for the first three periods.

A long heave from Matt Rensvold at the buzzer put the Pirates up 17-28 at the half.

Whitefish turned the tide in the third with stingy defense. The Dogs outscored Polson 15-4 in the quarter.

Jacob Henry and Luke May each cashed 3-pointers, and Derek Kastella hit a pair of free throws to tie the score at 32-32 to end the quarter.

Polson slowed the pace in the fourth then pulled away as Whitefish’s shooters went ice cold.

Kastella finished with 15 points to lead Whitefish. May had five rebounds, four assists and five points.

Whitefish (5-7, 2-1) played at Bigfork on Tuesday then travels to Frenchtown on Thursday.
