The peaks of Glacier National Park have inspired the moniker of a new hotel going up in downtown Whitefish.

The Firebrand Hotel, under construction at the corner of Second Street and Spokane Avenue, takes its name from a well-known mountain pass on the east side of the Park between Summit and Dancing Lady mountains near Highway 2.

Averill Hospitality is behind the 86-room boutique hotel, the same family that owns and operates The Lodge at Whitefish Lake. During the planning process they had dubbed their downtown venture The Empire Hotel in a nod to Whitefish’s railroading roots.

In a press statement, they say the new name is a reflection of “the independent spirit that keeps Whitefish an extraordinary place.”

The hotel is expected to open for business by early summer and reservations are currently being taken.

The upscale accommodations of the downtown property are to include 81 “deluxe rooms” and five “premium suites” with a fireplace, sitting area and body-spray shower. Four of the suites will have a private balcony overlooking town.

All of the rooms include a 50-inch flat-screen TV, high-speed Wi-Fi, robes and slippers, a dry bar and refrigerator, and sound-absorbing treatments on the windows, walls and floors. Smartphone enabled locks allow guests to access their room using a virtual key on their mobile phone.

Pricing starts at $119 a night for a deluxe room and tops out at $365 for a suite.

The hotel lobby will include a lounge and restaurant offering a breakfast buffet, tapas-style evening menu, 16 beers on tap, and a selection of wine. There is also a coffee kiosk with tea, smoothies, and grab-and-go options.

A rooftop patio is to feature lounge seating, and could play host to seasonal yoga and fitness classes. There’s also going to be a 24-hour fitness center on site.

Spa services will be available on-site, as will concierge and business services and bicycle rentals.

Parking will cost guests $12 a day in the peak season between June and September. The lot will house a Tesla car charging station.
