Police calls: Suspicious lights over Big Mountain

Whitefish Police calls from Dec. 28 to Jan.2:

Monday, Dec. 28

8:46 a.m. A vehicle was stuck in the middle of Texas Avenue. The driver’s boss was on the way to pull him out.

11:13 a.m. A mailbox was egged on Great Northern Drive.

4:16 p.m. A deer caught in a fence on West 1st Street was taken to the food bank.

8:50 p.m. A disorderly man wearing a camo snowboard helmet was yelling at people and vomiting on Central Avenue.

9 a.m. A state snow plow driver reported illegally parked vehicles on East 2nd Street that were blocking his turn radius. Multiple vehicles were towed.

Tuesday, Dec. 29

1:15 A woman needed to retrieve items left in a vehicle that was repossessed.

9:10 p.m. Report of a small dog chained to a tree on West 3rd Street. A caller was concerned that the dog had no shelter or water. The dog was taken inside.

Wednesday, Dec. 30

1:42 a.m. Report of an intoxicated man walking down the middle of Wisconsin Avenue. A driver nearly hit him.

12:40 p.m. Someone was living in a tent on property off Highway 93 South.

2:48 p.m. A woman with an infant was caught shoplifting from a downtown store. She walked out with a metal lunch box and other items.

5:27 p.m. Report of vehicle flying through the Colorado Avenue area.

Thursday, Dec. 31

12:30 a.m. Two men were trying to punch their way into a crowded bar downtown. They were bounced from the bar earlier in the night.

12:58 a.m. A taxi driver reported that he was grabbed and slapped by a customer.

1:09 a.m. The front window was smashed at a cafe on Spokane Avenue.

2:01 a.m. An intoxicated man told police he was punched in the lip following an argument with another man over the welfare of his dog Snickerdoodle.

2:52 a.m. Report of a sexual assault on Spokane Avenue. A woman was found passed out with an intoxicated man allegedly touching her. No charges were pressed.

7:56 a.m. Report of a woman and her elderly mother acting aggressive toward an employee at the train station. They were advised to keep it civil.

10:21 a.m. Report of a black pickup that ended up in the ditch after crossing the center line on Wisconsin Avenue.

3:14 p.m. A Baker Avenue resident called to thank police for their help in 2015.

6:31 p.m. Road rage was reported on Highway 93 South when the driver of a pickup cut off a vehicle and nearly ran over a pedestrian. The driver then tried to start a fight with the reporting party.

7:03 p.m. Suspicious red and orange lights were seen in the sky above Big Mountain that definitely were not fireworks. The caller wanted to know if anyone else saw the lights. Police said they’d keep an eye out for them.

10:05 p.m. A reportedly intoxicated man drove his SUV into a ditch on Edgewood. He approached a residences on Texas Avenue and told the homeowner he wanted to curl up in the corner and go to sleep.

Friday, Jan. 1

12:17 a.m. Report of fireworks on Flatwater Drive.

12:27 a.m. A man called police to report that he was kicked out of a bar and didn’t know why.

2 a.m. People were warned about fireworks downtown.

2:42 a.m. Report of a man in an alley downtown with no shoes. He told police he didn’t know where he was. They took him to a motel and got him a room for the night.

3:48 a.m. A woman on East 4th reported people upstairs drilling things. She said someone was going to die. Police were unable to locate anything suspicious.

11:17 a.m. A caller on Park Avenue reported a woman with no shoes on their front porch. She was taken to the hospital.

8:02 p.m. A take-out restaurant was stiffed on a bill.

8:26 p.m. A stolen iPhone was tracked to a home on Wisconsin Avenue.

11:46 p.m. A woman reported that her intoxicated boyfriend broke into her home and took her dog. She was concerned about the dog’s safety.

Saturday, Jan. 2

12:52 a.m. Report of an intoxicated woman who wrecked her vehicle near East 2nd Street. She was detained by police.

1:25 a.m. Report of a verbal disturbance on Bay Point Drive. An intoxicated man was taken home.

1:31 a.m. Report of a blue Toyota pickup suspected of a hit and run downtown.

12:45 p.m. An O’Brien Avenue resident reported the air was let out of his vehicle tires. He suspected it was the same person who put ketchup on his car and broke the windshield wipers.

Sunday, Jan. 3

12:53 p.m. Report of an ongoing issue with a dog chasing people on Karrow Avenue.

2:44 p.m. An autographed photo stolen from a downtown saloon was found in a hotel room. It was returned to the owner.
