Police calls: Cashier uncovers check, mail fraud

Whitefish Police calls from Feb. 8-13.

Monday, Feb. 8

8:36 a.m. More graffiti was found on a downtown business. The suspects tagged the alley and dumpster, then got on the roof of the building.

9:19 a.m. A man was seen possibly hitting a toddler in his vehicle. Police said the report was unfounded and that the man was just being a good dad.

11:53 a.m. Prescription drugs were stolen from a living facility on River Lake Parkway.

8:55 p.m. A vehicle was rummaged through on Barkley Lane. Nothing was missing.

9:27 p.m. Report of shoplifting at a store on Highway 93 South. The boy had reportedly stolen from the store before.

Tuesday, Feb. 9

11:11 a.m. Report of a dog with a rubber strap over its snout.

1:07 p.m. A guest at a hotel on Highway 93 South refused to pay her bill.

5:20 p.m. Report of people running into traffic on Wisconsin Avenue. The caller said the pedestrian crosswalk sign was knocked over and people were unable to use the safety signal.

Wednesday, Feb. 10

2:18 p.m. A caller was concerned about a dog on Armory Road with a frozen water dish. The dog appeared to be fine, but the owner was advised to work out a better situation for his pet.

4:09 p.m. Suspects in a string of vandalism downtown might have been captured on a Baker Avenue security camera.

6:25 p.m. A woman attempted to purchase $900 in merchandise from a store on Highway 93 South. She wanted to write a check for the times, but when asked for ID she left the store and didn’t return. She left a purse at the counter with mail from a variety of addresses. The caller suspected the mail and checkbook were stolen.

Thursday, Feb. 11

1:29 a.m. A downtown bar refused to serve an intoxicated man. He later fell asleep at the bar while drinking a glass of water.

1:53 a.m. Report of a stolen flatbed pickup that was left downtown unlocked with the keys inside. The truck was found in the snow on Big Mountain Road.

8:46 a.m. A bicyclist was warned for not stopping at an intersection on Baker Avenue.

2:59 p.m. A woman was bit by a cat on East 3rd Street. The animal was placed under quarantine.

3:32 p.m. Report of a possible DUI on Highway 2. A driver was seen passing vehicles on the shoulder going 90 mph. The driver stopped at a gas station to buy beer, then kept driving.

5:01 p.m. A group of suspicious kids hanging out in an alley downtown were asked to move along.

9:27 p.m. Report of a disorderly man at a downtown store screaming in the isles. He was wearing a dress, a blonde wig and had lipstick all over his face. He was escorted from the store.

10:21 p.m. Report of two men breaking vehicle windows at a parking lot of Spokane Avenue. The suspects were later caught in Kalispell.

Friday, Feb. 12

2:43 a.m. Report of a suspicious man looking into vehicles on Colorado Avenue.

7:59 a.m. Someone had been messing around with equipment at the City Hall construction site.

10:41 a.m. Report of vandalism downtown. A building was tagged with graffiti.

11:49 a.m. A caller asked to have an intoxicated man trespassed from his home after he punched a hole in the wall. Police told the man to sober up before going to the home to pack up his belongings.

12:01 p.m. A golden retriever was dragging a deer carcass down Wisconsin Avenue.

5:52 p.m. Police counseled a group of teens downtown who were overheard talking about smoking marijuana.

Saturday, Feb. 13

12:37 p.m. A business owner on East 1st Street keeps finding trash and beer bottles in front of her store. She also found a dirty syringe.

5:55 p.m. Report of a woman with a clock hanging around her neck and a shopping cart full of her personal items in front of a store on Highway 93 South. She was asking people for money.

7:05 p.m. A woman was caught shoplifting from a store at the mall.

Sunday, Feb. 14

1:33 a.m. Report of a very rude woman threatening to hit a bouncer. The intoxicated woman was escorted out of the downtown bar.

4:49 p.m. A man was arrested after allegedly punching another man in the face five times at a downtown bar.

6:59 p.m. Report of gun shots heard on State Park Road and East 1st Street. It could have been fireworks.

8:42 p.m. Two young men stole a $20 cellphone charger from a store on Wisconsin Avenue.
