Jeff Doorn photo Bulldog Travis Catina earned a win over Browning’s Brett Kipp Thursday at Whitefish.

The Whitefish wrestling team split its home dual Thursday, falling to Polson but picking up a win against Browning.

Polson won five of the seven contested matches against the Bulldogs for a 51-22 defeat. There were forfeits at 103, 152, 160, 182 and 285.

Travis Catina and Robert Bertelson won their matches for both matchups for the Bulldogs.

Head coach Ryan Boyle said he was happy to see Bertleson’s success as he returned from a previous concussion injury.

For Catina, Boyle said he’s glad to have a senior wrestler his team can rally behind.

“Catina is kind of our guy, he’s going to be solid all year round. He’s one of the guys we count on every time we go out there,” he said.

Boyle said while the early loss to Polson wasn’t a great way to start, his team was able to pick themselves up and come out against Browning with dominating performance.

“We were trying to react to everything [against Polson], we were waiting for them. When we wrestled Browning we were aggressive. We were the dictators of a lot of those matches,” he said.

“It was a fun thing for the team to kind of come together,” he added.

Whitefish returns to competition in Cutbank on Jan. 6.

“It’s a great little tournament,” he said. “We’re just looking to get a little bit better and get into the second day.”
