Lady Dogs fall in nonconference game
The Whitefish girls suffered a nonconference loss last week to Eureka.
The Lions outscored Whitefish to come away with a 59-30 win on Dec. 20 in Eureka.
Eureka took an early lead at 19-0 in the game. They continued that into the halftime, heading into the locker room at the half with a 34-7 lead.
Diana Vasquez and Marlee Bender were the high scorers for the Bulldogs (0-5), netting six points each.
“We’re taking baby steps and there’s always little positives in every game,” head coach Ben Johnson said. “We’re working at becoming better shooters. Every week we’ll work on it.”
Whitefish has two full weeks of practice over winter break to address weaknesses and get on track after the holidays. Johnson said the priorities for practice aren’t very different, but he will be changing lineups and seeing how new groups of players work together.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action Friday, Jan. 6 at home against Flathead. The last time the two teams met in the season opener, Whitefish fell to the Class AA team 76-15.
“They’re a tough challenge, so we’re going to try to be competitive and be in that game and do better than we did the first time,” Johnson said.
