Skate shows feature TV classics

| August 23, 2016 4:30 PM

Glacier Skate Academy will present Prime Time as part of its summer show series this Saturday at Stumptown Ice Den.

Skater Eric Palin, who stars as Ken with Disney On Ice, will also take to the ice to perform.

Prime Time features a revue of classic TV shows over the decades, from “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” “Happy Days” and “Gunsmoke,” to modern-day favorites including ABC’s Dancing with the Stars and NBC’s The Voice. It promises to entertain an audience of all ages.

More than 25 skaters from the Northwestern U.S. and Canada comprise the cast, which must learn the show in five weekdays and then perform on Saturday. Skaters in the show range in age from 8-18.

“Our summer shows offer a great opportunity for skaters to learn a high-quality production quickly, as they would in a professional setting,” says choreographer and director Bethany Wallis Goodwin. “They have quick changes and multiple numbers to perform. Although hectic at times, they have a lot of fun with it, and our goal is to share that with the audience.”

Goodwin, a professional dancer who now choreographs and coaches for Glacier Skate Academy, created Prime Time.

Shows are Saturday, Aug. 27 at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Stumptown Ice Den in Whitefish. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at glacierskateacademy.org. For more information, call 406-730-1402.
