Middle school reminds drivers to turn off their cars

| August 23, 2016 4:26 PM

As the Whitefish Middle School Student Council, we are very happy to announce that we’re joining the Clean Air Zone Montana project in keeping kids safe from exhaust emissions. The Clean Air Zone Montana project is a statewide program aimed at reducing children’s exposure to the school bus diesel and exhaust coming from idling cars. We are asking that other drivers, as well as school bus drivers, turn off their vehicles while waiting for their kids outside of the school and other gathering places.

Whitefish Middle School has pledged to “Get into the Zone” and to improve the air quality for our students, staff, and residents. We have made many commitments to this project including:

• Posting signs asking parents and drivers to turn off their vehicles while waiting for their children.

• Placing eye catching, informational posters around the school to let students and teachers know the damages idling can do to the environment and their own health.

• Communicating with the North Valley Climate Action Force to help with their projects against idling and other dangerous emissions.

• Announcing information to the students that is easily interpreted.

• Posting information to the school website about exhaust fumes and their effects on the respiratory system.

We hope that you can help us “Get in the Zone” and turn off your cars when waiting for your students.
