Birthday bash raises money for WAG Park
The dogs wore leis and beach music filled the gazebo Friday evening at Hugh Rogers WAG Park.
The event was a birthday party thrown by Elise Davis and Phoebe Brown to celebrate the second birthday of Davis’ dog, Charlie, with a Hawaiian luau themed party. Charlie, a border collie-Australian shepherd rescued from a shelter in Spokane, wore a blue and white Hawaiian shirt along with her lei. The original plan was just to throw a party for their own enjoyment, but the two decided on a better cause.
“We said, ‘why not have it benefit the dog park?’” Brown said.
Davis and Brown set a goal of $50 in donations for Whitefish Animal Group. By the end of the day, they’d brought in $145. The party featured a best dressed contest for the dogs. First prize was a spa day, a $15 gift certificate to Tailwaggers, and second prize was box of organic dog treats, both donated by Tailwaggers.
Emmet, a golden retriever, came in first place, with a miniature Australian shepherd named Rosie coming in second.
