Shakespeare in Park at college

| August 9, 2016 10:02 AM

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks will perform William Shakespeare’s “Richard III” at Flathead Valley Community College as part of the company’s summer tour of 61 communities throughout Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, North Dakota and Washington. The performance at FVCC is scheduled for Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. and will take place outside. The event is free and open to the public. Spectators are encouraged to arrive early and bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics.

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks features 10 professional actors selected from national auditions who tour without technical assistance to bring live theatre to mostly rural communities.

“This will be the first time in Montana Shakespeare in the Parks’ 44-year history that we’ll bring ‘Richard III’ to our stage,” said director Kevin Asselin. “‘Richard’ will fit right into this highly active political year, reminding us how Shakespeare stays relevant even 400 years after his death.”

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks is an outreach program of Montana State University’s College of Arts and Architecture. Grants, corporate sponsorships and hundreds of individual donors support the free performances.
