Retired educator supports writing coaches

| August 9, 2016 4:15 PM

With great admiration I commend the Whitefish High School English students who interacted with the writing coaches this 2015-16 school year.

I was honored and privileged to be one of the volunteer coaches and as a result so impressed with the students’ open reception to me as a listener/reader during the one on one sessions. Our 30-45 minute sessions were discussion based. The student talked about their piece, the meaning they desired to convey and asked for my perceptions as they organized their thoughts and writing.

I witnessed pride, ownership and exuberance as the students shared their voice in their written product.

I applaud Mr. Fedderly and Mrs. Reed’s eagerness, flexibility and leadership used to incorporate the writing coaches into their classes. Their open attitude paralleled the students’ receptive manner.

As a retired Whitefish educator, I know how beneficial individual help can assist in the learning process.

Expanding this program to reach more of our WHS students seems logical as the next step. Please consider supporting the program of Writing Coaches by donating to the Whitefish Education Foundation through the Great Fish Challenge. Thank you Whitefish for giving to the education of our greatest asset-our youth!
