Mossfeldt takes first in Club Championship
The 2016 Club Championship at Whitefish Lake Golf Club was another huge success with more than 140 players participating in the two-day event.
When the final hole was played, Kyle Mossfeldt won the mens championship flight by three shots over second-place finisher Shawn Tucker.
Coral Schulz, soon to be Bobcat golfer, won the ladies championship with a final round of 72 on the South Course. Carrie Cameron garnered the ladies senior championship and Carroll Lilly repeated in the mens senior division with two rounds at even par.
Dave Streeter emerged as the super-senior champion, edging out Rodger Hankins and Norm Nelson for the title.
In the junior, division Hailey and Holly Hileman tied after 36 holes, so the twins will share the crown going into their senior year at Whitefish High School. The boys junior champion this year is Connor Layton, one of our Canadian junior members.
Congrats to all the 2016 Champions, well done and great rounds.
While no one managed to win the $10,000 prize for a hole-in-one on No.6 North during the tournament it was an added bonus provided by the Whitefish Credit Union. Three local nonprofits, CASA, North Valley Music School and Montana Wild Wings all benefited from the hit-the-green donation, also sponsored by Whitefish Credit Union. What a great way to support our local non-profits that always are in need of funding.
Kelly Shoots His Age
Local golfer Parker Kelly, 82 years young, hit a milestone this Monday by shooting his age at Whitefish Lake Golf Club. This is a difficult task to accomplish as the birthdays pile up, but Parker, a late comer to the game, deserves the praise for this achievement. I would add that Rodger Hankins beat his age again this week in the Club Championship, one of many times for him to do so.
Jim Furyk shoots 58
PGA Tour Professional Jim Furyk entered the record books as the only player to ever shoot a 58 during an official tournament event. Furyk’s round included an eagle and 10 birdies on the par 70 Travelers Championship course. The round featured seven straight birdies from Nos. 6 to 12 and maintained that pace for the rest of the round. What might have been even lower had he not lipped out on hole No. 15 for another birdie. Having been one of only six players to ever post a round of 59 may have made the 58 seem possible going down the stretch.
