Police Calls: Dead body turns out to be mermaid sculpture
Monday, April 18
8:13 a.m. A wallet with $1,500 cash inside was stolen from an unlocked pickup on Columbia Avenue. The suspect left a knife in the truck.
9:20 a.m. The rear license plate was stolen from a vehicle at the hospital.
3:25 p.m. Two dogs inside a pickup downtown were barking their heads off. The caller was worried about their welfare.
7:27 p.m. Report of a reckless driver on a four-wheeler on State Park Road.
Tuesday, April 19
4:59 p.m. Report of a ruby red Porsche speeding 50 mph through the Sawtooth Drive neighborhood.
7:34 p.m. Report of a verbal disturbance on West 7th Street.
8:49 p.m. A resident filed a complaint about the street sweeper creating too much dust.
Wednesday, April 20
8:16 a.m. Transients were sitting behind a Highway 93 business. Officers asked them to move along.
2:10 p.m. Everything was OK at a Dakota Avenue home after a 911 hang-up. It was a pocket call.
2:49 p.m. Caller was concerned about a dog left inside pickup truck on River Lakes Parkway.
3:52 p.m. A vehicle was broken down on Spokane Avenue. A tow truck was called.
5:27 p.m. A hit and run was reported on Silverleaf Drive.
6:26 p.m. What appeared to be a dead body near a footbridge on the Whitefish River actually turned out to be a mermaid statue.
8:13 p.m. Found vehicle keys were returned to their owner.
8:13 p.m. A group of bicyclists on Larkspur had a confrontation with a security guard while trying to ride through a neighborhood. The guard said the bicyclists were not moving aside for motorists and the riders claimed the guard parked a vehicle in the middle of the road and yelled at them. The parties were counseled.
8:30 p.m. An intoxicated woman on East Fourth Street was yelling and slamming doors.
Thursday, April 21
7:05 a.m. Report of a noisy garbage truck picking up garbage on Iowa Avenue.
1:21 p.m. A brown “taco” dog was running loose on Wisconsin Avenue.
2:54 p.m. The driver of a pickup truck was weaving all over the road while driving on Highway 93 West heading into Whitefish.
2:55 p.m. A car was parked facing the wrong way on East Fourth Street.
7:41 p.m. Loud music was coming from a radio on Highway 93 South.
Friday, April 22
3:12 p.m. A couple of people were taking photographs of a train along the railroad tracks on East Second Street.
3:53 p.m. Temporary no parking signs were reportedly left up two days after they were dated on East Fourth Street. An officer removed the signs.
6:12 p.m. A lost golden retriever was returned to its owner on State Park Road.
9:05 p.m. Chain link fence blew over at a work site on Baker Avenue and was blocking the road.

11:24 a.m. A pillow and plastic chair were taken off a porch the night before on Flatwater Drive.
Sunday, April 24
3:09 a.m. A caller on Saint Moritz Drive was worried about an elderly neighbor who had left a garage door open all week.
8:10 a.m. A vehicle was parked on the sidewalk on East Second Street. Owner was advised to move the vehicle.
1:40 p.m. A vehicle pulled in front of another vehicle, ran a stop sign and backed into a fence on Highway 93 S.
11:15 p.m. Two or three people were taking a nap in a passenger car parked in a parking lot along Highway 93 South.
