The annual Clean the Fish effort to pick up litter around Whitefish is planned for April 23 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Breakfast will be served to all of the community “litter gitters” at the Glacier Bank parking lot located at 319 E. Second St. Trash bags and gloves will be provided. Designated drivers and trucks will pick up the trash bags and items too big for trash bags that are left along the roads.

Large trash containers will also be available at the Glacier Bank parking lot. Volunteers should be sure to get a ticket during breakfast for the grand prize drawings that will be held during a barbecue lunch. The prizes include two youth mountain bikes compliments of Glacier Bank of Whitefish and Glacier Cyclery. An adults grand prize is a gift card compliments of Glacier Bank of Whitefish. You must be present to be eligible to win the prizes. Call 863-6300 for more information.

The Whitefish Public Works Department, in conjunction with the annual Clean the Fish campaign will pick up naturally occurring debris from spring yard cleanup, such as leaves, grass clippings, and tree branches from Monday, April 25 to Friday, April 29.

Leaves and clippings must be bagged and securely tied. Bags weighing more than 25 pounds will not be picked up. Do not place animal waste or refuse into the bags. Tree limbs or branches must be trimmed to 4-foot lengths and should be securely bundled with twine. Place debris on the nearest boulevard for pickup, or at least 10 feet from the nearest refuse container.

The city encourages residents to compost yard and garden waste to reduce the amount of material to be picked up.

Call the Public Works office at 863-2460 or 863-2457 with questions.
