Whitefish escaped from Polson with a sweep last week, 25-17, 26-24, 25-22, in a Northwestern A conference match.

Cailyn Ross led the offensive attack with nine kills and added three blocks. Haley Fyant had seven kills and five aces.

“The kids are getting better every day,” Whitefish coach Jackie Fuller said. “Each game a different player is stepping up for us. Cailyn did some great things for us at Polson. If we continue to have our kids shine and get better, by the end we’ll be right where we need to be.”

Admittedly never satisfied, Fuller says there’s plenty of room for improvement on defense as the season progresses.

“We broke down on blocking and really need to get better there,” Fuller said. “Give credit to Kylie Larsen and Serena Hemmingson for their digs, but we’ve got to get it stopped at the net.”

Whitefish hits the road for a trip to Corvallis and Hamilton, two teams they’ve already faced this season.

“We’ve gotten better and they’ve gotten better,” Fuller said. “We’ve got to be at our best.”
