Just how big is City Hall?

My name is Richard Atkinson, a.k.a. Old Man Walking, and I brought forth a petition for a ballot initiative to let the people of Whitefish vote on the $14.95 million monstrosity called our City Hall and parking garage.

Today I want to show how BIG this structure actually is.

I think that most Whitefishians consider the Great Northern Brewing Co. building to be a large building on Central Avenue. Well, you could put the footprint of nearly eight brewery buildings within the footprint of the City Hall and parking garage.

How about Casey’s? The new City Hall and parking garage will hold the footprint of 15 Casey’s buildings.

The Great Northern with its beer garden is the widest lot on Central. No problem — you can fit five of them, including the gardens, within the footprint of the new City Hall and parking garage.

Do we want a building that BIG in Whitefish?

If the answer is “no,” do not re-elect the two incumbents for city council.

Check out the other four candidates. Ask each one if she/he supports www.LetUsVoteWhitefish.com. Find three who do, and vote for them.

No, it is NOT too late for the city council to practice democracy and let the citizens of Whitefish have a say in such a major community decision. They deserve it.

— Richard Atkinson, Whitefish

Editor’s Note: The new City Hall has a footprint of 10,500 square feet. The parking structure has a footprint of 29,000 square feet.
