Senior Walter Sobba slipped in a penalty kick and Whitefish’s defense held tight as the Bulldogs snapped a losing streak with a hard-fought 1-1 tie with Polson on Saturday.

Sobba buried the shot in the lower right corner of the net to even the match in 75th minute of the Northern A match played under the lights at Memorial Field for Homecoming.

Scoring chances were few for Whitefish (1-4-1, 0-1-1) with Polson dominating possession. The Pirates struck first when Mack Moderie hit the net in the 57th minute.

Whitefish kept fighting though, and a hand ball in the penalty box set up Sobba’s goal.

Bulldog keeper Marty Anderson tallied seven saves, including a game-saver late in the match where he tipped a long shot over the crossbar.

Whitefish played at Bigfork on Tuesday. No results were available by presstime. The Dogs next play at Columbia Falls on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 2 p.m.
