Whitefish can secure Northwest A crown against Frenchtown
Whitefish can secure a perfect conference record and a second consecutive Northwest A championship on Friday with a victory over visiting Frenchtown.
The Broncs are coming off a 46-13 loss at Hamilton on Friday, while Whitefish (6-1, 2-0) is riding a wave of momentum after shellacking rival Columbia Falls 47-7.
Led by first-year coach Rich Ferris, Frenchtown is 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Returning senior quarterback Zack Palmer (6-0, 184) leads the Broncs offense. His top target is junior Jacob Price, who leads the team in scoring and receptions. Price had three catches for 113 yards and a TD in the loss at Hamilton.
“We’ll do some things to try and lock them up,” Whitefish coach Chad Ross said.
Ross says the Broncs run a similar offense to Whitefish with an athletic quarterback and two backs.
Frenchtown’s offense ranks last in the conference in rushing, passing and scoring.
Whitefish’s offense, by comparison, is running on all cylinders.
The Dogs lead the league with nearly 1,800 yards rushing, averaging 9.6 yards per carry. The passing game is second in the league with an average of 170 yards a game.
“I can’t remember numbers like that,” Ross said. “We’re averaging more than 400 yards of offense a game.”
