Volleyball sweeps Lady Pirates for first 'home' win
Playing at “home” but still on the road, the Lady Bulldogs swept Polson in a Northwest A match Saturday afternoon at Glacier High School.
The 25-23, 25-13, 25-13 victory secured a season sweep of the Lady Pirates and lifted Whitefish to 5-4 overall and 3-1 in league play with the divisional tournament right around the corner.
The “home” match was played at Glacier due to ongoing reconstruction of the Whitefish High School gym floor. The Bulldogs have been practicing at Glacier, but Saturday marked their first home match of the season.
Whitefish came out a bit tight in the opening set, coach Jackie Fuller said, but a strong defensive effort opened up the game later on.
The dogs sprinted out to a 10-2 lead in game two, and went on a 9-0 run in game three to seal the win.
Kate Doorn had three of the team’s eight blocks on the day.
Cailyn Ross put down 12 of Whitefish’s 30 kills, and Ellie Dewan led the Bulldogs with eight digs and two aces.
Whitefish returns to action Thursday and Friday at the Missoula Invitational.
