A Whitefish man is accused of breaking into his parents home while they were out of the country, then stealing their car and charging thousands of dollars to their credit cards.

Sean Alexander Ringer, 23, was arrested Oct. 26 on a warrant and now faces felony charges of burglary, theft and deceptive practices in Flathead County District Court.

According to court documents, Whitefish police responded to a reported burglary on Dakota Avenue on June 18. The residents told police they were out of the country for several weeks and returned home to find a window broken out and several items missing. Among the items reported stolen were a 2006 Toyota Camry, a laptop computer, cash and credit cards.

The resident told police that he believed it was his son who was responsible for the thefts.

According to the resident, he was notified that Ringer was reportedly charged with DUI in Aurora, Colo., on June 6 while driving the stolen Toyota. The resident also reported charges on his credit card at various Kalispell businesses totaling $2,075.

Ringer faces up to 20 years in state prison and a $50,000 fine if convicted. His arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 12.
